Thank you for volunteering at the Mike Bush Fantasy Baseball Camp. Your contribution as a volunteer is greatly appreciated by the camp staff, the parents, and the children. We hope your experience with this year’s camp is as rewarding as it is for the campers!
Volunteer Information:
· The camp runs June 22-June 26, 2009 from 8:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at the St. Peters Rec Plex South in St. Peters, Missouri (Mon.-Thur.) and at the T.R.Hughes Ballpark in O'Fallon, Missouri (Fri.). All volunteers should check-in by 8:00 a.m. A name tag (a new one each day) and a camp T-shirt will be provided; both must be worn at all times. Complimentary lunches and snacks will be served daily by area restaurants. Your nametag is your lunch ticket. Lunch will end at 1:00 pm.
· Please be sure that we have your email address before you leave.
· The Camp is not a forum for deaf education debate; therefore, please refrain from any deaf education discussion with other parents/volunteers/children. We ask this so that the camp will be an enjoyable and comfortable atmosphere for all involved.
· Without sponsors, this camp would not be possible. Please patronize any sponsor that you see at the camp and tell them how much you appreciate their support.
· Celebrities will be visiting the camp during the week. The celebrities are here for the kids, so please do not approach the celebrities for autographs. The camp will do its best to see that the campers leave with celebrity autographs. Taking advantage of the celebrities may jeopardize the possibility of them returning.
· Safety is a paramount issue. Please watch for swinging bats, children crossing the street and balls in flight. If there is an injury, bring your child to the nurse’s station located between fields #1 and #2 outside. Remember, we want the camp to be safe and enjoyable for campers and volunteers. When leaving each area, check for any items left behind. i.e., ball gloves, equipment. Also, for our safety, and because we are at a public facility, please stay within the marked boundaries of the camp.
· Never put yourself in a position to be alone with a child. This is for your protection as well as for the child’s. Two volunteers must accompany a camper to the restroom.
· Watch for heat exhaustion. Because our camp is in late June, we are bound to experience some hot weather. If you notice signs of heat exhaustion such as dizziness, excessively red or pale skin, or a child is sick to his/her stomach, bring that child to the nurse’s station without hesitation.
· Other issues: Typical Daily Schedule, Lunch & Breaks, Arena Training Center, Lunch Procedure, Layout of Facility/Land, etc.
· A camp picture will be available for volunteers to purchase. Please fill out the Order Form and make your check payable to Fantasy Baseball Camp for $5.00. (Weather permitting, this will be taken on Monday.) Hopefully, pictures will be ready for pick-up on Friday of the camp.
Volunteer Assignments:
There are five categories of volunteers at the camp; each is critical to the camp’s success. The five categories are: Station Coach, Team Manager, Assistant, Interpreter, and Food Provider. Regardless of your assignment, please stick to your responsibilities throughout the camp to ensure a smooth week; we are counting on each and every volunteer.
If you have questions, please direct them to Tracy Harris, Camp Volunteer Coordinator.
